Manchurian doesnt need any introduction, this Indo chinese foods are prepared usually with a vegetable or a meat. Marinated meat or veggies deep fried then sauteed with onions, bellpeppers along with a mixture of sauces makes this wonderful appetizier or side dish. Manchurians goes awesome with fried rice or else with a bowl of hot piping rasam rice.
Egg Manchurian is an another delicious recipe made by steaming the eggs and then deep frying them, the added sauces at the end nicely coats with the fried eggs and gives nice taste and sourness to the recipe .We can make it as a dry version or as a semi gravy type, egg Manchurian dry goes excellent with rice whereas gravy pairs with naan, roti and also with fried rice.
Where Gobi Manchurian recipes are rocking the Chinese menu cards I am here with a different type of Manchurian named as Egg Manchurian, unlike Gobi Manchurian where cauliflower is directly put into the oil in this Egg Manchurian we will boil the egg in a different manner which makes this a unique recipe.

Prep Time : 10 mins Cooking Time : 25 mins
Serves : 3-4 Cuisine : Indo Chinese
Egg : 4 nos
Salt to taste
Pepper powder : 1 tsp
For Coating -Batter
All purpose flour / Maida – 1/4 cup
Corn starch/corn flour – 1/4 cup
chili powder – 1/2 tsp
water as needed
Oil – 2tbsp
Ginger – 1 tbsp finely chopped
Garlic – 1 tbsp finely chopped
Onion – 1 finely chopped)
Capsicum /Bell pepper – 2 tbsp
Chilli sauce – 2 tbsp
Tomato sauce/ketchup – 1 tbsp
Soy sauce – 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder required
Salt to taste
Spring Onions for garnishing
For Semi Gravy
1 tbsp corn flour + 1/4 cup water
1. Steam the eggs in a pressure cooker or in a idli cooker
2. Coat the eggs in the batter and fry them in oil
3. Heat oil and saute ginger, Garlic ,onions and bell peppers
4. Add the sauces and the corn flour mixture to get semi gravy
5. Add the fried eggs and cook for another 2 minutes
6. Add spring onions for garnishing .Our Delicious egg Manchurian is ready to be served.
Step 1) Steaming eggs: Break open 4 eggs into a bowl and add required salt, some pepper and mix well. Grease a pan with oil and transfer the egg mixture into that bowl and place it inside an Idli cooker (we can also use rice cooker without adding the cooker weight).Steam it for 15-20 minutes .
Step 2 : Run a knife through the edges and cut the steamed eggs into desired shape and keep it aside.
Step 3 : Frying the Eggs:In a mixing bowl add maida ,corn flour, chili powder ,add water and mix well to for a semi thick batter. Coat the cooked eggs and fry it in hot oil. Once they become crispy take it off from the oil and set aside.
Step 4: Onion & Capsicum:
Now in a pan heat oil and add finely chopped ginger, chopped garlic and saute it for a minute until the raw smell is gone.Then add chopped onions and cook for a minute until it turns translucent. Then add bell peppers / Capsicum and cook for a couple of minutes.
Step 5: Sauces for egg Manchurian:Now its time to add the sauces – chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, Soy sauce and mix well. If you want the recipe to be dry then we can add the fried eggs and mix with the sauces and turn off the heat after a couple of minutes, but if you want little gravy then dissolve corn starch in water and add it to the pan. once it thickens up a bit add the fried eggs and cook for another 2 minutes.Finally add required salt, some pepper and garnish with chopped spring Onions.
- If your soy sauce is very strong you can dilute the sauce (use half the quantity of sauce mentioned) and add it to the recipe
- Be careful while adding sat because all the sauces which we have added contains lot of salt in it.
- You can use this steamed eggs for making other recipes like egg curry and egg gravy.
In restaurants they add cubed onions and bell peppers, I have finely chopped them to add nice smooth texture
