Khichdi is a comfort food of indian cuisine, its healthy and easy to cook it. It don’t take much time to cook and is fuss free. Khichdi can be made with almost all the indian lentil, every one have their own preferences and method of cooking. Some like it simple and some prefer to add vegetables in it. I usually prefer instant-poha-cereal and oatmeal-cereal then the other.

The working women who doesn’t have much time to prepare fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner. This instant khichdi mix will very helpful for them. I used only few lentils, after 8-9 months can add all lentils and make khichdi mix. It will help easy digest for babies.

So instead of buying expensive and not so healthy ready food packets from the market it is a good idea to make such food items at home. They are quite easy to make and very healthy and hygienic.

Toda i am sharing this easy to make khichdi mix, which you can make either in the pressure cooker or in the microwave also. I prefer to cook on stove top for babies. Can add some chopped vegetables in it, while pressure cooking to make it more healthy and colorful. Easy stays fresh for a month at room temperature.

Instant khichdi mix / Rice and Dal powder for Babies recipe



Instant khichdi mix a ready to cook mix of rice, lentil, spices and just add water and cook.

Prep time : 5 mins Cooking Time : 15 mins
Serves : 1 cup


Ingredients:
Rice : 1/2 cup (white or brown)
Toor Dal : 1 tbsp
Moong Dal : 1 tbsp
Massor Dal : 1 tbsp
Pottukadalai : 1 tbsp
Pepper : 4-5
Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
Hing : 1/2 tsp

For making Porridge :
R
ice dal powder : 2 tbsp
Water 3/4 cup
Salt to taste (optional)
Ghee : 1 tsp

Method:
1. Wash rice and dal in lots of water till it is completely clean. Drain and dry it clean cloth at room temperature.
2. Heat kadai, add in washed rice and dal and roast them on a medium heat till it is golden. It will take around 15 to 20 mins.
3. now remove them to plate and let it cool.
4. In the same pan roast cumin, pepper, pottukadalai and hing for a couple of mins and remove them as well.
5. Now take everything in a blender and powder them finely.
6. Allow the powder to cool and then store in a air tight container.
7. For making porridge, add 3/4 cup of water with 2 tbsp rice and dal powder. Cook this on low heat till it is cooked, it will take around 5 mins.
8. Allow it cool a bit, you can add some ghee for taste and feed your baby. If you want can add salt to it.

  1. make sure you roast the rice and dal well before grinding it.
  2. Always make small batches, so the powder stays fresh always.
  3. This porridge can be given for babies who are above 6 months.
  4. you can add in cooked veggies to this porridge.
  5. Consistency of porridge it totally depends to you.
