Palak pakora/Spinach pakoda – A quick snack recipe made of spinach, basic spices and gram flour. Pakoda or pakora are deep fried tea time snack from indian cuisine. Gram flour and carom seeds are the main ingredients used to make these crisp fried snacks. These crispy palak pakoda just happened on a weekend when I had some spinach left over and had to finish it up. These are good to serve hot with a cup of masala-teachai/

To make palak pakoda crunchy and to add some texture you can used sliced onions and cashew. And you can replace onion with cabbage or can even use mixed veggies. These are good to serve hot or warm. However these can be made ahead and crisped up in a preheated oven at 220 c for 5-6 mins.

Palak Pakora/Spinach pakora/How to make spinach pakora recipe

Spinach pakora or palak pakoda are indian style spinach fritters. These are crunchy and can be had as a starter or snacks.

Ingredients :ย 

Spinach : 2 cups Chopped

Gram Flour : 1 cups

Rice Flour : 1/4 cup

Ajwain : 1 tsp

Hing : 1/4 tsp

Cooking Soda : 1/8 tsp

Red chilly powder : 1 tsp

Garam Masala : 1 tsp

Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil to deep fry

water as needed

Method:ย 

  1. Set all ingredients ready. In a mixing bowl, mix all ingredients. Except flours, when the mixtures releases moisture, add besan and rice flours
  2. Mix well. If needed add in water, make a pakoda thick batter.
  3. Heat oil, drop the mixtures in small qunatites.
  4. Drain them on a kitchen tissue.
  5. Serve palak pakoda hot or warm.

Set all ingredients ready. Set aside
In a bowl mix all ingredients together, except flours.
Allow spinach to release moisture, then add in gram and rice flours. Mix to coat well. If needed add in water.
Heat oil on medium heat. Drop the mixture small quantities into oil. Fry on both sides to crisp
Drain it on kitchen tissue
Serve warm or hot with masala chai/tea
