Banana Appam is a quick appam recipe that you can prepare when you have sudden guest. This is also an instant appam using wheat flour and over ripe banana. This is a quick appam which you can make for any special occasions. It just needs a handful of ingredients and the appam turns out to be so soft.

I would always recommend using ripe banana for this recipe. Raw or just ripe bananas do not infuse the same amount of flavour to this appa recipe. I personally like the recipe with less sweet so have added just quarter cup of Sugar. However, if you consider your bananas less sweet you are more than welcome to add extra jiggery or sugar to it. Lastly, the typical recipe involves deep-frying these small dumpling in a hot oil, but as an alternative, you can use Paniyaram Pan or appe pan too.

Ripe Banana : 2
Wheat Flour/Atta : 1 cup
Sugar/Jaggery : 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder : 1/4 tsp
Baking Soda : a pinch
Water as needed
Oil for deep fry
- Firstly peel banana, mash them with the help of fork making sure there are no lumps.
- Then add in wheat flour, sugar, cardamom powder and baking soda, mix well combining all ingredients well.
- Add more water to make thick cake batter consistency, Set aside.
- Heat oil for deep frying, drop small spoonful of batter in and fry till golden brown. Stir it in between. Drain and serve.
- Instead of sugar, you can add jiggery also.
- you can add nuts or grated coconuts too.
- Don’t like to deep fry, can make it in paniyaram pan or appe pan too.
