Are you tired of having the same boring idli’s again and again..Then why not spice things up..Add some spices into your Normal Idli Batter and create this unique idli. I found this recipe in a cookbook and found it very interesting, so immediately tried it and it came out super good.
The cool thing is you dont need any sidedish for this idli. But if you want any sidedish, you can try any of my Chutneys/ sides for tiffin. So hope you like it and let me know what you think.
Now-a-days I love having idli for breakfast. But there was a time during my childhood when I was a tough nut to crack for my mom.  One such twist on a classic Idli, which my mom made frequently is this Thalicha Idli. The tempering added to this idli gives an unique flavor to it. Also, rather than using a regular idli plate my mom used to make these using short tumblers or plate.
As a kid I would love it and would have no qualms in having it for breakfast. Also, whenever we used to make a trip to Tirupati, my mom would pack this for breakfast. Regular Idli, when packed, tends to get dry on the surface when not had immediately. So my mom used to make this thalicha idli instead which used to remain soft and fluffy for longer. All in all this is the perfectly healthy dish you could make for your Kid for breakfast or pack for lunch 🙂

Some Breakfast Recipes:

Prep Time : 5 mins        Cooking Time : 8-10 mins

Serves : 4-5

Ingredients:

Idly Batter : 5 cups

Oil : 1 tbsp

Mustartd Seeds : 1 tsp

Ginger : 1 tbsp chopped finely

Green chilly : 2 chopped finely

Coriander Leaves : 1 tbsp

Curry Leaves : one spring

Red chilly : 2

Channa Dal : 2 tbsp

Grated Coconut : 1/4 cups

Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Take all your ingredients. Wash channa dal, soak it for 15 mins.

    2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add in all the seasoning ingredients, except coconut and saute for a min.

    3. Now take idli batter in a bowl and add salt if needed. Now pour the seasoning mixture over the batter and mix well.IMG_20180324_211858

4. Pour this idli batter into idli moulds and spread grated coconut on top of idli. Steam cook for 8 to 10 mins.
