Uluntham Paruppu Sadam is very popular in Tirunelveli district. My MIL often do this uluntham paruppu sadam with mutton kuzhumbu. But she used to tell, it will go great with ellu thovayal. But im a non-veg lover, so i used to have with mutton kuzhumbu.

Split Blak Urad dal is rich in  protein and vitamin B and is also a good source of  iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium which is required for the body. Black urad dal has both soluble and insoluble fibers which helps relieve constipation. This dal is especially good for women. It is also said to improve milk secretion to lactating mothers. Urad dal/Ulundu (in the form of uluntan kali) is given to girls, when they attain puberty as it strengthens the uterus. It also helps in strengthening the bones and muscles. So today lets see about this simple and healthy urad dal rice recipe.

Prep Time : 10 mins       Cooking Time : 20 mins

Serves : 3-4

Ingredients:

Rice : 1 cup (any rice)

Split black urad dal : 1/2 cup

Garlic : 10 cloves

Fenugreek Seeds : 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds : 2 tsp

Salt to taste

Water : 6 cups

Method:

  1. Dry roast rice and urad dal combinely until hot to touch. Allow it to cool down, then wash it in running water 2 times.

    2. Take all ingredients in a pressure cooker with required water and salt (the quantity of water will vary according to the quality of rice used). Pressure cook on low heat for 2 whistles or until rice is soft. Open the cooker once the pressure releases and mashup little with masher.
