on

Hi all, happy to see you all a very long time of gap. Vacation to my native (chennai) and personal reasons, not able to post my recipes. So, here it’s snack time and we are having hot hot dates tempuras…

Let me share with you a very simple chai time snack. Chopped dates dunk into a flour paste and deep fried… is just an awesome combination with tea for any evening. This is one among the popular snacks in Kerala. I never knew about this recipe until i taste it from one of my friends family.  Got this recipe and tried out and I just fell in love with this appetizer in my first trial itself.

Do try it out & let me know how much you enjoyed……

Prep Time : 5 mins        Cooking Time : 10 mins

Serves : 3

Ingredients :

Dates : 12 deseeded

Flour/Maida : 3 tbsp

Rice flour : 1 tbsp

Sugar : 1 tbsp

Baking Soda : a pinch

Oil to deep fry

Method :

  1. Combine all ingredients except dates.  Add water slowly and mix well with your hand till you reach the correct consistency. The batter should be thick. If it becomes watery, adjust on the flour by adding more. Heat oil enough to deep fry in a kadai.
  2. Once oil got heat for deep fry, dip dates in batter. Check it as coated all sides.

    3. Cook on medium low heat till golden brown. Do not fry in high heat otherwise the inner part wont be properly cookeddrain excess oil on kitchen towel.

Serve hot with chai or tea. Enjoy your evening time. IMG_20170720_171847_01
