My family love vadacurry very much. If vadacurry is there i love to have any tiffin items with this. Already i have posted Vadacurry with coconut milk. Here is my mom vadacurry, which is very simple method and tasty too. This you can make with ingredients available at kitchen. I served it with Idly. I like it with pongal too. For pongal it should be little watery consistency. Ok lets see how to make simple and tasty vadacurry.

Serves : 4-5

Prep Time : 15 mins       Cooking Time : 30 mins

Ingredients:

Channa Dal/Kadala paruppu : 1 cup

Onion : 1 Medium size chopped

Tomato : 3 medium size chopped

Ginger Garlic paste : 2 tbsp

Red Chilly powder : 1 tsp

Garam masala : 2 tsp

Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

coriander leaves for garnishing

To Temper:

Ghee : 2 tbsp

Oil : 1 tsbp

Bay Leaf : 1

Fennel Seed : 1 tsp

Star anise : 1

Cardamom : 3

Cloves : 4

Cinnamon stick : 1 inch

Method:

  1. Soak channa dal for 3 -4 hours. Drain it, add it to a blender and grind little coarse. Do not add water

    2. Heat oil for deep frying. drop small dollops of this mix and fry till golden. Remove it to paper towel, set a side.

3. Heat oil and ghee in a pan, temper with tempering ingredients. Then add onion, cook till golden brown color. Add ginger garlic paste, cook till raw smell leaves.

4. Add in chopped tomatoes, cook till mushy. Then add in red chilly, garama masala and turmeric powder. cook it for 2 mins. Add in required water with salt, allowed it boil nicely.  Then add in vada’s, cook it for 5 more mins. Check consistency.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with idly or dosa. Enjoy. Happy Eating.20170530_210913
