onion Uttapam

Uthappam is a variation in dosa where all the ingredients is added into the dosa batter and then the dosa is made.Traditionally uttapam is made with lightly sour dosa batter. This is my Mom way of making uttapam. You could even make this batter in the night and use it the next day.  Try this dish and let me know what you think.

Serves : 3

Prep Time : 10 mins      Cooking Time : 3-4 mins each dosa

Ingredients:

Dosa Batter : 3 cups

Onion : 1 big chopped

Green chilly : 2 finely chopped

Ginger : 1 inch chopped

Coriander leaves : 1/2 cup chopped

Channa Dal : 2 tsp

oil as needed

Method:

  1. Heat oil in dosa tawa or kadai. Add channa dal, fry till golden brown color. Then add chopped onion, ginger, green chilies and fry them for 3 mins.2. .Put this in the dosa batter and mix well. Add in coriander leaves and little salt and mix well. Brush up some oil in tawa and pour a ladle full of dosa batter over the tawa and spread it lightly(Don’t spread it so much). Drizzle oil on the dosa and cook on the slow flame till the bottom browns. Then turn the dosa and cook on the other side too.

Serve hot with coconut chutney, sambar or idli podi.20170426_205535

Notes :

  1. If you like to add veggies, yes u can add shredded carrots, cabbage and tomatoes.
