Here is an easy and instant tomato rasam, which i tried and tested. When i gone to India, i thought this rasam to my hubby. This is an easy way of making rasam. No need to soak tamarind, no rasam powder. With 10 mins you can make this rasam. Taste also will be great and aroma no chance. Just give a try and let me know how it turns out.

Serves : 2-3

Prep Time : 3 mins        Cooking time : less than 10 mins


Tomato : 1 big sized chopped

Pepper corns : 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp

Dry red chilly : 1

Garlic : 3

Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp

Oil : 2 tsp

Mustard seeds : 1/2 tsp

Hing : a generous pinch

Coriander leaves : for garnishing

Curry leaf : few

Salt to taste

Sugar : a pinch (optional)


  1. Set all ingredients ready. Except tomato take pepper, cumin, garlic and red chilly to a blender. Make coarse powder. Then add in chopped tomato, give a speed and blend it to smooth.

2. Heat oil in a pan, crack mustard seeds, hing and curry leaves.  Then add this tomato puree with a cup of water, turmeric powder, salt and a pinch of sugar. Allow it to boil for 5 mins on medium heat. Turn of heat, then add in coriander leaves.

Notes :

  1. Adding a pinch of sugar will balance taste of tomato.
  2. Adding coriander leaves after turn off the heat, will give nice aroma to rasam.
