Jeera Rice is my son’s favorite dish. Jeera rice goes great with paneer and chicken gravies. Because it is very mild in spicy, so it will taste great with spicy curries. I serve it with Butter Chicken.

Basmati Rice : 1 cup
Shahi Jeera/Black cumin Seeds : 2 tsp
Ghee : 1 tbsp
Cinnamon stick : 1 inch
Bay Leaf : 1
Cardamon : 3
Onion : 1 small sliced
Green Chilly : 2
Ginger Garlic Paste : 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Water : 1.5 cups
- Wash and soak basmati rice for 30 mins. Drain and set aside.
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add in shahi jeera, cardamon, cinnamon stick and bay leaf and mix well. Now add in sliced onion, green chilies with required salt and cook till golden.
2. Add in ginger garlic paste, saute it for 2 mins. Then add rice, toss it well for 2 mins.
3. Add 1.5 cups of water, mix well. Bring it to boil. Keep it on medium heat, cover and pressure cook for 1 whistles. Turn off heat. Once air settled, open lid and fluff the rice.
Serve it with rich and smooth gravies.
