Thakkali Kothamali chutney/Tomato Cilantro Chutney

Tomato Coriander Chutney is a very easy and tasty chutney that goes well with Idly and Dosa. The preparation of Tomato Coriander Chutney itself is very simple. All you need is to saute tomatoes and coriander leaves along with green chilly, cumin seeds and then grind it to a fine paste. Then you season the chutney with few basic seasonings.

Prep Time : 5 mins       Cooking Time : 15 mins


Green Chilly : 2

Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp

Coriander Seeds : 2 tsp

Tomato : 2 large chopped

Coriander Leaves : 1 cup chopped

Salt to taste

Oil : 1 tsp

To Temper:

Oil : 1 tsp

Mustard seeds : 1 tsp

Urad Dal : 1/2 tsp

Red chilly : 1


  1. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin, coriander seeds and green chilies. Saute it for 3 mins. Then add chopped tomatoes.

2. Cook tomatoes till mushy. Add in chopped coriander leaves and salt.  Saute it for 2 mins. Allow it to cool down completely. Add it to a blender and grind to a fine paste.


Transfer it to bowl and temper it with tempering ingredients. Serve it with idly or dosa.


  1. If you like to add garlic, you can add 3 pods of garlic also.
