Tomato Chutney for idly and dosa

This is not like normal tomato chutney.  I had this chutney at my SIL house, long back. I got recipe and tried out, great taste. All we loved this chutney.  What special in this chutney ?Aroma of cinnamon and dania seeds, mixed with tomato and onion. Hmmm no words.  Try out this and let me know how it turns out.

Serves : 3

Prep Time : 15 mins          Cooking Time : 10 mins


Onion : 1 small size chopped

Tomato : 3 medium size

Channa dal : 1 tsp

coriander/Dania Seeds : 1 tsp

Cinnamon Stick : 1 inch

Red chilly : 1

Grated Coconut : 1 tbsp

Coriander Leaves : few

Oil : 1 tsp

Salt to taste

To Temper:

Oil : 1tsp

Mustard : 1 tsp

Urad dal : 1/2 tsp

Curry Leaves : few

Method :

  1. Prep chopping onion and tomato. Then heat oil in kadai, roast dania seeds, channa dal, red chilly, cinnamon stick till golden brown.

2. Now add chopped onion, saute it for 2 mins. Then add tomato, cook till mushy. Turn off heat, add in coconut and coriander leaves, mix well. Allow it to cool down, take it to a blender and grind it to smooth.

Transfer it to a bowl and temper with tempering ingredients. Serve with idly or dosa. 20170322_203224
