This is one of our favorite kuzhambu for my hubby and son. This is very simple way to make it. I used sambar powder, which my mom grinds in the mill and gives me when I visit her. If its not available, you can replace it with red chilly powder and coriander powder also. Try to use sesame oil for kuzhumbu recipes, it is good to health and taste great.

Serves : 3-4

Prep Time : 15 mins       Cooking Time : 20 mins

Ingredients:

Tamarind : 1 small lemon size

Shallots : 8-9

Garlic : 15

Curry Leaves : few

Tomato : 1 Large Size

Sambar powder : 2 tsp

Salt to taste

To Temper:

Sesame Oil : 3 tsp

Mustard Seed : 1 tsp

Cumin Seed : 1/2 tsp

Fenugreek : 1/4 tsp

Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in hot water for 20 mins. Extract the juice. Set a side.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai, add tempering ingredients. Once cracked add chopped shallots, garlic, curry leaves. Saute it till golden brown in color. Then add in chopped tomato.
  3. Cook till it turns mushy. Now add tamarind extract followed by sambar powder and salt. Stir well,bring to boil. Simmer till the kuzhambu gets thicker.

    Enjoy it with steamed white rice and serve with some ghee. Tastes Great.20170316_083539
