Brinjal gothsu is a traditional sides for idly and dosa. This method is very easy and tasty recipe. You can try with any veggies instead of brinjal. There is two type of kothsu. One for idly, dosa and another one is Pongal Gotsu. Here you go..

Serves : 3-4

Prep Time : 10 mins     Cooking Time : 20 mins


Brinjal : 3 medium size

Onion : 1 medium size

Tomato : 2 large

Garlic : 5

Sambar  powder : 2 tsp

Turmeric powder : 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Water as needed

To Temper:

Oil : 2 tsp

Mustard Seed : 1 tsp

Cumin Seed : 1/2 tsp

Red chilly : 1

Curry Leaves : few

Hing :  a pinch


  1. Start chopping veggies, take all ingredients to a pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.

2. Open lid once air released. Press it smoothly with ladle or mathu. Heat oil in a pan, add tempering ingredients. Pour this gothsu, allow it to boil for 5 mins.

Done. Serve it idly or with dosa.20170316_205341
