This is very easy sambar with no veggies, no sambar powder. It will go with white rice, idly and dosa. If you have tamarind concentrate, it will make your more easy too. This sambar is great for bachelor’s to cook.

Serves : 3

Prep Time : 5 mins     Cooking Time : 20 mins


Toor dal : 1/2 cup

Onion : 1 small size

Tomato : 2 Medium size

Green Chilly : 1

Garlic : 3

Turmeric powder : 1 tsp

Tamarind Water : 1/2 cup

To Temper:

Oil : 2 tsp

Mustard seed : 1 tsp

Hing : a pinch

Dry Red chilly : 1

Curry leaves : few


  1. Take pressure cooker, wash and add tood dal. Add all other ingredients, except tamarind water in pressure cooker. Cook it for 3 whistles.

2. Once pressure released, open lid and mash dal to smooth. Then add tamarind water. Temper with tempering ingredients and add it too. Then boil sambar on medium heat for 5 more mins or boil until raw smell of tamarind water leaves.
