Channa Masala/Chole masala / Chickpeas masala for poori, chapatti

As one of the most popular dishes in the world, both in and out of India and Pakistan, channa masala, chole masala. This is easy and simple channa masala. No need to add chole masala. It can be cook with ingredients available at kitchen. 

Prep Time : 10 mins      Cooking time : 20 mins


Chickpeas/channa : 2 cups

Onion : 1 chopped finely

Tomato : 3 (Pureed)

Ginger Garlic Paste : 2 tbsp

Red chilly powder : 1 tsp

Coriander powder :  1 tbsp

Garam masala : 1 tbsp

Sugar : 1/2 tsp

Lemon juice : 1 tbsp

Tomato ketchup : 1 tbsp

Oil : 2 tbsp

Cinnamon Stick : 1 inch

Cardamon : 2

Fennel seeds : 1 tsp

salt to taste


  1. Soak channa for 6 hours and cook in pressure cooker for 2 whistles. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil in kadai, add cinnamon stick, cardamon and fennel seeds, once cracked add onion, saute it to golden brown. add ginger garlic paste.img-20170206-wa00453. Pour in the tomato puree and add in all the spices cook till oil separates. Now Add a dash of Tomato ketchup and mix well.

    4. Now add in channa, salt, sugar and lemon juice. Mix well till every thing is combined.

    5. take some channa to a blender, make paste and add this in channa masala to make it thick consistency. Allow it to boil for 5 mins. img-20170206-wa0042Done. Garnish with coriander leaves, serve with poori, battura or with chapatti.20170128_121028
