Matar paneer is an North Indian gravy side dish for flat breads such as naan, roti, parathas, but goes very well with rice and pulao also.This is one of my most favorite dish. It has paneer and green peas as main ingredients. Today let us learn how to make matar (peas) paneer (Indian cheese) following this simple recipe with step wise pictures.

Serve :3-4

Prep Time : 15 mins     Cooking Time : 30 mins

Ingredients:

Paneer, cubed(frozen) – 1 cup

Peas, frozen – 3/4 cup

Red chilly powder : 1 tsp

Coriander powder : 3 tsp

Cumin powder : 2 tsp

Kasthoori methi : 1 tbsp

Ingredients to Grind:

Oil : 1 tbsp

Cashew nuts : 7

Onion : 1 chopped

tomato : 3 chopped

Ginger : 1 inch

Garlic : 8

Turmeric powder : 1 tsp

Salt to taste

For Tempering :

Oil : 2tbsp

Cumin seed : 1 tsp

Bay leaf : 1

Cinnamon Stick : 1/2 inch

Cardamom : 2

Cloves : 2

Method:

  1. Heat sauce pan, fry cashews, add onion, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt one by one. Saute it till mushy. Allow it to cool and make a smooth paste.

2. Again heat oil in a sauce pan, add tempering agents, once cracked, add a smooth paste. Then add red chilly, cumin, coriander powders, mix well. cook it for 5 mins.20170112_194452

3. Add kasthoori methi, green peas, allow masala to cook for 5 mins on medium heat. Then add paneer, give one boil, turn off the heat. Rest for 10 mins and serve with roti, naan, chapatti as your wish.

Notes:

  1. If you like to add cream, you can add cream before adding paneer.
