Avarakkai (flat Beans) is a healthy vegetable rich in dietary fiber. We can do many dishes using flatbeans. Some people like to add coconut, dal, eggs to make curry, but here im going to add eral (shrimp) with avarakkai(flat beans). Here this recipe will go with sambar, rasam, kuzhambhu. This recipe will be taste differ.

Eral/Shrimp : 10 pieces

Avarakkai/flat beans : 200 gms

Onion : 1/2 Chopped

Tomato : 1 Chopped

Kuzhumbu milagai podi : 2 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil : 4 tsb

Mustard Seeds : 1 tsp

Turmeric powder : 1 tsp

Coconut grated for garnishing


  1. Wash and take a string from avarakkai, cut it. Then clean shrimp and cut in small small pieces, place it with avarakkai itself.img-20161230-wa0025

2. Then in a kadai heat oil, add mustard seed, once cracked, then add onions saute for 2mins. Now throw tomato in to it. Saute it to mushy. Then add avarakkai with eral, add kuzhumbu milagai podi, turmeric and salt. Saute it, add little water as required, cover and cook till done. Garnish with grated coconut. Serve.
