One day my MIL prepared this sambar for dinner, i asked what is this? She said sambar, but it dont taste like sambar i said. Then she replied it doesn’t made in toor dal, its fully made by pottukadalai. It is very famous in her native. Really! taste is very awesome.So i like to share this recipe here. And to its low in calories, but rich in iron. For idly and dosai is a best combination.
Serves : 3
Prep Time : 10 mins Cooking Time : 20 mins
Onion : 1/2 Finely chopped
Tomato : 1 Finely chopped
Capsicum : 1 medium size
Water : 2.5 glass
Pottukadalai powder : 3 Tbsp
Oil : 3 tsp
Mustard seed : 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Sambar powder : 2 tsp
Coriander leaves for garnishing
- In a sauce pan take oil, put mustard seed. once cracked add onions, saute it for 3 mins and add tomato, saute it turn till mushy form. Then add chopped capsicum into it, close it with a lid cook up to capsicum get cooked.
- Then add water, salt amd sambar powder, allow it to boil for 5 mins on a medium heat. In a bowl add grounded pottukadalai powder, mix it with a little water and add this mixture to boiling sambar. Cook for 2 mins for thicken. Then serve with dosa or idly.
1. You can add any vegetables to this sambar. I love capsicum that y cooked with that.
